Using vba-over.ini in linux
I'm having problems getting vba-m to detect vba-over.ini. I'm using VBA-M 1.8.0-SVN, downloaded from the .deb on the sourceforge page. The .ini file was downloaded from http://www.no-intro.org/gbadat/tools/vba...051224.zip The distro I'm using is ubuntu 8.10. The config file for gvbam is located in ~/.config/gvbam. This is where I put vba-over.ini, but it doesn't seem to detect the file. I tested it using a clean Pokemon Fire Red (U) rom, but I still get the 1-m circuit board not installed problem. The config file for vbam is in ~/.vba and /etc. I put vba-over.ini there too, but I still get the same problem. I've made sure that the real time clock is enabled in the config files. Save type is set to automatic. I'm having no problems in windows.

If it's Windows only, is there an alternative method to get the same effect on linux? I read https://vbam.bountysource.com/svn/!revision/334 and assumed it would work on linux too.

It doesn't work with the gtk port. It only works with the sdl port.

Alright, thanks for the support. It's only really necessary for a handful of games anyway. Are there any plans to have this and cheat support in the gtk port for future releases?

we aren't looking to change the current ports too much.... there are bigger plans afoot for the entire VBA codebase Wink

RE: Using vba-over.ini in linux
Sorry for ressurect the topic, but I din't know if I make another topic or ask here...

I use Ubuntu, so I can't use the vba-over.ini, right? So If I change the settings manually (for example, for Pokemon Fire Red room I put: Save type: automatic and Flash Size in 128k) the save will works?

I'm using VBA-M 1.8.0-SVN (downloaded vbam-gtk_1.8.0.1042-1_i386.deb) and Ubuntu 11.04

Thanks!

I don't see why it shouldn't...it worked for me, using the same version of VBA-M on Ubuntu 12.04. Of course, I prefer to use the Windows version via Wine, where vba-over.ini does work. It's a bit slow with GBA games, but I'm willing to chalk that up to my netbook's 1.66 Ghz x2 processor not quite being up to snuff.

Due some unknow reason, Wine doesn't work most of the time on my PC :S

After you said that I did a file-search and found an vba-over.ini file, so it means that is all ok? I don't need to change the settings on the emulator for each game? And for the settings on the vba-over.ini works, the name of the room must be equal as the name in vba-over-ini?

Thanks again!

no, the override file uses the internal name (4 character code)

RE: Using vba-over.ini in linux
ah Big Grin seems to coincide a bit with the semi-documented "game code" field used in N64 executable format header section (also 4 ASCII characters)

Good choice imo. Too many emulator authors in N64 stuff rely on using the CRCs in the header.
