General Info:
VBA-M is a [Super] Game Boy [Color / Advance] emulator for Windows, Linux & Mac. Here you can get information about the latest development build of the Windows version and download it while you're at it.


Changes in this release:

commit latest nasm and kode54's change to gb_oscs that has seemed to have resolved the channel 3 issue in a number of games.

Not a great deal can be said about the last 12 revs, mainly its been tidying up little annoyances in the build process and where configurations are saved when opening multiple instances

The best change, well atleast for those users experiencing it is a small change Kode54 applied to the GB_APU which has so far cleared up the issues in games using wave ram(Channel 3)

A few of these games come to mind, Mario and luigi super star saga, Telefang 2, Megaman battlenetwork, and im sure there are many more which had issues previously.

You still need to use r1030b

Win32 builds have always had GBA_Link enabled, but the backend and packet recieve/send code is not fully functional.

1030b contains changes from code that adamn was working on on his own. He hasn't been seen for almost a year now and no source is available to merge down the tree.

The change in 1090 is only applicable to linux builds of VBA-M, to resolve an issue where certain games fail to run because a certain hardware test/check fails.

A newer build!

I just dropped by because I was going to suggest your fine product to a newbie at a ROMs forum I frequent who was still using the ancient 1.7 build of the original VisualBoyAdvance emulator. I was about to suggest the older 956 SVN Build when I noticed this thread advertising a newer build, so instead of suggesting the 956 build I immediately opted to link this thread to my reply to the guy's thread Smile

But I've got to be honest, I haven't tried this newer build myself yet so I was kind of jumping the gun when I suggested this to him Ashamed

I will be giving this a whirl though as I absolutely enjoy you folks' work Smile

I cannot extract the 7zip contents!!!!!!!!!!!! 7zip and WinRAR don't work; they don't recognize the compression type or something.

the 7z is using LZMA2, which requires 7z 9.x+ or Winrar 4x+

slow how? try enabling the Mirroring option under emulation > game overrides and then close and reopen the rom

Squall, I think, mentioned at some point that big things were in the pipeline for VBA-M, so yes: it is still in active development. As for linking, you're just going to have to stick with revision 1030b; my understanding is that the guy who was working on the linking code vanished from the project after that and took his code with him.

One please tell me the requirements of PC to function properly the emulator, as well if you have any knowledge of zlib, as requested within the requirements for proper function, I need a manual on how to install that file .... thanks

I agree with that. Deadlines would just cause unnecessary stress.

The only problem I have is that sometimes the sound gets distorted for less than a second and then back to normal for +/- 10 minutes.

yes, we are aware of some rare buffer underflows in the current output api's.

using a higher mixing length may reduce its occurence.

Better to control the APIs than to rely upon their internals as a solution.

Register underflow and overflow are consequences of manageable memory that were not managed stably.

But I've always wondered what sound output API I could use for a plugin....
I want to avoid DirectSound since it's specific to DirectX in Windows.
I hear there's the newer XAudio, OpenCL, something else I forget.

...Erm, but anyway, last I checked audio stuff that I remember being off in VBA-M had since been fixed in the past months. I haven't had any audio buffer problems since then. I do hate deadlines though XD.

Yeah, I know that.

DirectSound precedes XAudio within the DirectX API. I'm not saying that means XAudio is like, more portable than DS or anything, but, eh, it's kind of why I'd rather write an XInput controller plugin than a DirectInput one.

Then again, I'd rather use GDI than GDI+ XD.
GDI isn't as portable as OpenGL, but it's still more portable than Direct3D or Direct2D due to other operating systems having similar OS-level render calls.

Bah, I suck with APIs. Just don't know of any equivalent for audio; I guess that would be like waveout or something. Good thing there's a much smaller choice. Big Grin
