    GBA games don't run

I only have the GBA bios, I think. I tried it with and without it on. I already tried the switching the engine too (that was part of what I meant by "no matter what I do"). It seems I have a one-in-a-million problem here. Thanks for trying though. Maybe I should try it on a newer version of Windows. What the heck does that even mean? XP doesn't even have any antivirus software. It's on VMware, so I don't even need it. Even if I had, how do you know it's bad or has a "sandbox" mode?

Iconoclast, if you're not going to read my posts thoroughly and just jump to conclusions about me, how are you supposed to solve my problem? DirectX, OpenGL... I tried Super Mario Advance, Pokémon... y'know, the big ones. Or do you mean something else? Let's see... ROMs are clean, emulator works fine for others, DirectX up to date, all DLLs present and accounted for... I'm stumped.

I guess it's the DLLs and/or codecs or something.

They're just regular old .zips! I've never had trouble with downloads on the site before...

I'm not going to argue any of the "points" you guys seem to be trying to make about changes (the files haven't been modified in years, just so you know). But seriously, isn't this the "support" forum, not the "make fun of someone who needs help" forum? Anyway, I just downloaded a new rom fresh, and it won't run zipped or unzipped, and my other versions of VBA won't run it either. All of my GB/GBC roms I tested run perfectly, and they're in the same folders and everything (e.g. I doubt that only the GBA roms would get corrupted and nothing else). So all I can figure is that I have the wrong DLLs, or there's something wrong with my codecs. Or both, I dunno. My hard drive is accessible by both XP (under VMware) and my Mac (Snow Leopard). I doubt that helps much, because I haven't really updated XP except for DirectX/OpenGL since I installed it.

My point is that the roms ARE NOT CHANGED.

They're the same roms I've had for years, though.

Period. No matter what I do. Just a white screen. Not even 'ROM info' recognizes them. I know that DirectX is up to date, so I can't imagine what's going on.

    Super Mario 3 Special

In addition to VBA-M, I've tried the original VBA, BGB and KiGB. I've also got a (pirate-of-a-pirate) hack of it- called Pokémon Diamond Special Pikachu Edition- on an actual cartridge that works just fine on my GBC and GBA. Just tested No$GMB, and it does the same thing. There is a website that has a "patch" that's supposed to switch the mapper to 1, but as far as I can tell, this "patch" is completely nonfunctional.

    Super Mario 3 Special

No emulator seems to be able to run this. In fact, they all behave in much the same way: title screen, barely visible map, crashes on any selected level. VBA-M isn't any different. Apparently it uses its own unique mapper. Super Mario 3 Special (aka Super Mario Special 3) Compile used: 503 Windows XP SP1 RTC: it's a pirate, I seriously doubt it. Considering this game still hasn't appeared in GoodGBx, I really can't say what the proper ROM name is.
